Our Story
Only good things could come out of two childhood friends catching up after many years apart! While sitting in Chick-fil-a,(Jan 2018) Andrea Martin and Jessica Kent sat for hours as their children played in the playground, talking all the things. Finally landing on their journeys of homeschooling and how finding a CO-OP that fit their style was hard.
One week later, via texts and phone calls, the crazy idea of Watermark was birthed. Our approach was different. Andrea taught her two girls with such joy and loved every minute of it. But teaching other children was just not in her wheelhouse. Jessica thrived on ways to engage her (then) 7 kiddos in family learning, but when asked to teach science or underwater basket weaving she would struggle.
The concept of hiring professionals in the community to come and share what they are passionate about with our children became a reality in September 2018. With only 12 families, Watermark Homeschool Enrichment opened its doors. Offering just a few classes and impacting only preschool students up to 8th grade. Teachers were hired who loved the topic they taught so much that students who were not taking their class would stand outside their classroom door asking “what did you teach today.”
Sadly, Andrea’s daughter was moving to High School and Watermark wasn’t ready to expand just yet. So after one year of planning and designing and creating Andrea stepped down. Jessica had a hard choice to continue the vision or step down as well. Thankfully, she is a praying girl and God leads her very clearly to ‘Keep moving forward’.
